Just heard from Angela. Wonderful chap, Ashley! Much love with heartfelt condolences to all the family from Ge and me, and from our children Gisella, Angelo and Naomi.

I new him from the 1980s, but it was our recent Golf trio that jogs my memory. His tutor always mentioned him as 'The professor', such a nice guy. His hole in three at the Golf Club's eight hole has not been beated by any of us, and we will miss him dearly.

Such sad news but such fond memories. He was a lovely man who will be much missed. My time with Ashley were mainly in my childhood when, as my godfather, he would sometimes take me out for a trip. I have a vivid memory as a small boy of him hoisting me onto an enormous camel at London Zoo for a ride (when such things happened at London Zoo!) and encouraging/distracting me with friendly chat as I plodded around the paddock somewhat nervously. Then as a rather shy teenager who had got into playing squash he took me to his local club for a game (which I seem to remember him playing very well!) and all the time just making me feel at ease and amused by a constant flow of funny banter. He had this effect on everyone around him. As a kid I loved watching the interaction between him and my Dad, Robin, whose lifelong friendship began as bachelor room-mates in 1960s London. I saw another side of Dad come out in their conversations, as they had enjoyed many adventures together, not least careering around the South Coast in the small yacht they bought and sailed together with Judith and Mum in their newly wed years. Years later at my wedding, delighted to see him again after so long, he was just the same. Going through the photos after the event I chuckled to see the moment our photographer had captured of him making Judith and my mother Angela laugh. I will add this to the Gallery here. Thank you Ashley for a life well lived, and for all the warmth and fun you brought me and my family. Much love to you all and all our thoughts are with you. Julian, Amy and the kids
